The application of protective coatings represents the most widely adopted means of controlling the corrosion of structural metals. Regrettably, all to often the coating fails to achieve the results expected of it. This may be because of an inappropriate coating system, failure to appreciate or to satisfy the technical requirements of the application process, inadequate inspection, or on occasions, defective materials.
